INCLUDE-ID Funded by the European Union

Everyone should be able to enjoy a museum.

INCLUDE-ID is working to make that true for people with intellectual disabilities.

This website is being built. The project starts on 1 September 2026.

What we are doing

Many people with intellectual disabilities are left out of cultural life. Museums and heritage sites are often hard to understand, hard to move around in, and hard to enjoy.

INCLUDE-ID brings together museums, researchers, designers and disability organisations from seven countries. We design new ways to visit — together with the people who will use them.

We combine co-design, artificial intelligence that adapts to each person, and multisensory experiences that work for different ways of seeing, hearing, moving and understanding.

What we want to achieve

  • Understand what stops people with intellectual disabilities from taking part in cultural life across Europe.
  • Design new ways to visit, together with people with intellectual disabilities, their families, their teachers and museum staff.
  • Build AI tools that adapt a visit to each person, and make sure they are safe, ethical and accessible.
  • Support families, cultural professionals and young people to guide cultural visits themselves.
  • Test an inclusive visit for children and teenagers, with their schools and their families.
  • Test a path for young adults with intellectual disabilities to work as cultural guides.
  • Turn what we learn into policy recommendations, practical guidance and public events that challenge stigma.
